About Printer MultiPASS C635
With so many people working at home, there's a greater need for a fully functional office in the back bedroom or at the dining room table. But where do you fit all that equipment? A computer, printer, fax machine, copier, and scanner are absolutely necessary in the modern world of freelancing and telecommuting, but who has the room for--and who can afford--so many machines? One of the only multifunction options currently available for Mac users is the Canon MultiPass C635. A color bubble jet printer, copier, fax, and scanner all in one compact machine, the C635 will become your new best friend, though it fails miserably at water cooler gossip.
Plain old black-and-white printing isn't enough in this Power Point world, so the C635 offers photo-realistic 720 x 360 dpi color images, which will print at approximately 2.5 ppm. Copies retain the same vibrancy as the original, as will scanned photos. And if you're not quite pleased with the photo itself, with a few simple mouse clicks you can manipulate and enhance the image using Adobe PhotoDeluxe, which comes bundled free with the C635. With TextBridge Pro, you can integrate scanned text right into word processing documents and save yourself hours of retyping time.
When setting up fax capabilities, you have four modes to choose from: fax only, fax/telephone, manual, or answering machine mode. Determine whether you want to have a separate line for just faxes, if you want to hook up through your answering machine, and if you want the fax to ring or not. The C635 can distinguish between fax and phone calls and will send the signal to the right machine. No more picking up the phone and getting that annoying constant beep in your ear.
Extremely versatile, the C635 is as simple to set up as a standard printer. The quick start guide is very clear and has illustrations that actually look like the product (unlike many manuals we've tried to follow, to no avail). If you've ever set up a printer before, this will be intuitive, but nonetheless, Canon breaks it down into little bites and has helpful line drawings at every bullet point. For extra instructions or troubleshooting, check out the user's manual on the software CD. Be sure to plug the USB cord directly into your computer or into a dedicated USB hub. Using another port--like the one on your keyboard--won't give the C635 the power it needs for its many functions.
Once the hardware is set up, turn on your computer and insert the CD. With a few clicks, you can install the MultiPass Desktop Manager and Canon Creative for the Macintosh. The Desktop Manager includes the Printer Driver, Fax Utility Setup, and ScanTastic. Included in the Canon Creative for the Mac is Adobe PhotoDeluxe and ScanSoft TextBridge Pro. Once installed, restart your computer and you're ready to go.
We think the best thing about the C635 is the vast convenience that it offers. No more running out to the copy shop and rustling up change to make a copy or two while waiting to receive an expensive fax or trying to find someone with a scanner to help you out at the last minute. The C635 makes working at home more comfortable, professional, and smooth. It's amazing how four office machines can be compressed into the size of one standard printer.
